The Navigational Metaphor:
The Borobudur conceived as an integrated circuit with encoded instructions
Complex interactive projects require a clearly defined navigational metaphor. Seen from above, the mandala-layout of the Borobudur reminds us – children of the information age – of a highly integrated circuit, which adds layer upon layer of its encoded instructions on top of each other. I therefore chose the architecture of a computer chip as the principal navigational metaphor for the entire project.
